I have been looking forward to curating @FemEdTech and #FemEdTech in March 2023. A lot has happened since I last did a curation stint. For one thing, the Twitter landscape looks very different since my last time. I have been flirting with moving @francesbell from Twitter to Mastodon but my progress to date is limited to being less active on Twitter rather than making major strides on Mastodon.
I intend to use my time as curator to explore ideas with the FemEdTech network about what curation means at FemEdTech – where and how can we curate? What can we do and share?
I do not know the answers to these questions and I am hoping for some good insights and discussions from FemEdTechers.. It’s taken a few days to get going @FemEdTech but I am going to start with some ways to engage with FemEdTech that anyone can do.
The first is the FemEdTech hashtag. #FemEdTech is active on Twitter and we can look for ways to make #FemEdTech active on the mastodon fediverse too.
I am going to be cross-posting between @FemEdTech on Twitter and my account on mastodon @francesbell@mastodon.social. I had hoped to automate the cross-posting but it seems that is a bit uncertain just now so I might have to cut and paste https://fedi.tips/crossposting-between-mastodon-and-twitter/ , remembering to include #FemEdTech at Mastodon.
So what can you do ? You can respond and share @FemEdTech at Twitter, #FemEdTech at Twitter and Mastodon, and follow my Mastodon account @francesbell@mastodon.social during March.
My next post will be about curation and sharing at FemEdTech Writings.
Let’s keep playing and learning!

Hello friends, this is my first time commenting on this lovely website.
Just a caution about automated cross-posting to Mastodon. The longer term fediverse users find this quite trying, for interesting reasons. It’s associated with the recent shift of larger numbers of Twitter users over to mastodon-in-a-hurry. As someone who now only engages on Mastodon I notice how it comes across — it’s like the email that isn’t written to you but cc’d to you. It doesn’t feel inclusive, and very often the content of the message itself betrays that Twitter is the primary intended audience.
I’ll be really excited to see #FemEDTech show up on Mastodon. That will be so lovely! Hashtags are the only way to search on mastodon instances, so it will make a difference. If you’re looking for me, I’m @kate@aus.social and I’m happy to help anyone.
(Frances says) You are very welcome to this site Kate – bringing your lovely knowledge and common sense to femedtech.net and to the knotty questions around presence, posts, comments and management of all of these on quiet spaces like this site and noisy places like Twitter and the Mastodon fediverse.
Thanks for your caution – it will inform my play/experimentation during my March curation 🙂 I had intuited that hashtags are an opportunity on Mastodon (as they can be on Twitter). I have just been down the rabbithole that is Mastodon #FemEdTech – currently small but beautifully formed.
I’ll have to treat cross-posting with care. I have already ruled out automated cross-posting and will be playing/experimenting with networking (during my March curation at least) @FemEdTech Twitter posts and FedEdTech Writings across to Mastodon via #FemEdTech on @francesbell@mastodon.social . Hmmm!!
Frances, I’m so grateful that you are doing this #FemEdTech experimentation and offering to share what you learn here 🙂 like you, I have all but withdrawn from the bird site – I no longer engage in conversation there. I have been spending some time on Mastodon (@catherinecronin@mastodon.ie) and doing my best to amplify #FemEdTech there. I agree with Kate about cross-posting… it is truly a different space. I am still finding my feet but glad to be there with you and others who are doing this with intention and care. #onward
